Welcome to Term 3

Welcome back to a new term. We hope you had a relaxing time and enjoyed the time with your children. This term is again a busy one with many events happening. We look forward to keeping you informed as the term progresses.

What we are Learning!!!

Unit of Inquiry
The first part of this term we are continuing to focus on our population unit. The central idea for this Unit of Inquiry is: Population growth requires consideration and management to be sustainably developed. Children have been looking at how populations grow and the reasons behind the growth. Investigating these factors have helped the children continue to develop their understanding of population issues. As we continue the unit we will be looking at population sustainability and management. If you would like to add to our population wall feel free. It can be found here:

Literacy
In literacy for the first part of this term we are looking at Narratives. The children are going to be writing stories and a range of different ways. As classes we are all contributing to a class narrative in the form of a Choose Your Own Adventure. Each class is coming up with a story and then will continue the story and have multiple endings. It will be an interesting experience.
Reading continues to be a key part of our literacy program. Children are encouraged to continue nightly reading and when they complete a book to do a lexile quiz. Children over 1000 in the lexile program need to complete 2 book reviews to put on the kids talk books website.
The website can be found here: http://kidstalkbooks.weebly.com/
Check it out and read some of our reviews.

Numeracy
Continuing to develop our mental computation skills and use of the four operations is a major focus this term. Knowledge of the times tables will continue to be a vital skill the children need to know and we ask that you encourage your child to practise these daily.
Data analysis and and graphing is also a large part of this term. The children will be creating, recording and interpreting data in a range of different ways. Also we will be investigating linear equations and cartesian planes.
Children are encouraged to continue with Mathletics. It can be found here:
http://www.mathletics.com.au/

It looks to be an exciting term and we will keep you informed as it progresses.
